Why Authenticity Will Always Be Your Creative Superpower

We’re all the same — yet, different

I recently asked this question on Twitter:

1. Adding value

2. Consistency

3. Self-motivation

Some agreed with my answer. Others, disagreed.

Regardless, I found myself nodding in agreement. Because everyone’s answer was rooted in the same thing— authenticity.

Everyone is unique.

Yet, the same.

We all strive to be ourselves. Yet, want to relate to others. Embracing this when creating online grants you superhuman abilities.

More accurately, superb human abilities.

In a world filled with imitation and exaggeration, authenticity is a breath of fresh air.

There’s no doubt Elon Musk is famous for this technological ingenuity. But he wouldn’t have made it to mainstream popularity without being perplexingly relatable.

There’s no reason we should relate to a rocket-scientist billionaire who wants to colonize Mars.

Yet, we do.

Because Elon doesn’t try to be perfect. He’s awkward, shy at times, and loves anime. He’s overworked and Tweets when he shouldn’t.

Even though 0.00001% of people of Earth can actually relate to Elon, he’s incredibly relatable.

Embracing who you are is a recipe for success. It’s also the most important skill when creating online.

Rule #1 of content creation is to build trust with your audience.

Many creators look for ways to hack trust. Freebies, asking questions, sticking to popular topics. But there’s a much easier way.
