Quotes distill hard-to-understand issues in a few poignant words. These words leave bread crumbs on our path, helping us find our way. Believe me, I’ll follow the bread crumbs left by those who traveled this path before me for guidance.

Over the years, I’ve built a vault of over seven hundred quotes to help me navigate life. Today, for the sake of brevity, I choose four.

Moving into old age is gradual process, taking years to happen; we all know this. It sneaks up on us when we’re not paying attention. Retirement from a lifetime job is different. One day we are in the office or at a construction site laying bricks, the next day, we’re not. Boom, kaput, it’s over. Meanwhile, back at the office, some young whippersnapper is writing memos. They hired a new bricklayer without skipping a beat.

It can flood your mind with anxiety, for sure.

Don’t let your mind get caught up in the shoulda, coulda, woulda’s of regrets. You now have the time to try some new things. Let go of the past, do not let it haunt your days. If you’ve hurt or wronged someone, make the correction. Leave the past and move into a future full of promise.

I’ll admit making a change is difficult for some of us. It was for me. I took the assignment to pastor a church in another state from where we lived. I accepted the opportunity to help a church through transition; I did not relish the idea of moving. Thankful for my loving wife helping me through a location change.
