Education. Not Degradation.

Women. To be a woman is a to wear the skin of a sister, a professional, a mother, a wife, a friend, and countless others. This is true, however, of any ‘gender’ so why are we always talking about women?

The answer is both long and short — simple and complicated. We want equality. A lot of you are looking at this blog post thinking something along the lines of this chick has her freedom, this chick is blogging right now… but I’m here to tell you that I won’t be satisfied with my freedom until it’s the collective liberation of all women. The ask is simple, the execution is where we seem to be stuck, so answer me this: Why are men all over the world repressing women’s rights and freedoms?

I may not be a scholar in women’s rights, but I do know injustice when I see it. Is it right that girls and women all over the world are barred from receiving a formal education just because they’re female?

I truly believe that access to quality education is the right of all people. My belief in education is so strong, I think it’s the solution to all of the problems we face today; economics, sustainability, civil unrest. Imagine if the global community committed as much to the education of girls and women as it does it’s men. We would have more doctors and scientists working to cure diseases. We would have more teachers, lawyers, bankers, engineers — we would have a fully educated international community. Just take a second and think about what we could achieve operating at full capacity instead of half.
