What Makes the Airport so Great?

Literally nothing makes me happier than being at the airport.

I have never had a clear explanation for this but certain things about this place just make me so happy. The smell, the expansiveness, the lights, the huge machines, the sound, the rush. I don’t even know but it’s all so exciting.

Travel is a commonly enjoyed activity and it is rare for someone not to enjoy this. The most common way to get around, especially abroad, I would say is by plane. So why wouldn’t the place that leads to flying to a new far-off place be the most exciting place in the world?

I get that for a frequent traveler, the airport could be just as exciting as the doctor’s office or the DMV, but it doesn’t even matter for me. No matter how much I fly in the span of a couple months, it is like Christmas morning every time.

The feeling of lifting off the ground is one that just can’t be beat. The pure speed from this machine that weighs hundreds of thousands of pounds can make you feel like Marty McFly in the DeLorean going 88 miles per hour.

How is it that these beasts made of metal so easily glide through the air a mile up from the ground?

And oh don’t even get me started on the view. I can pinpoint one of the best moments of my life and it was when I flew into New York for my first time. It was just around sunset, and the Sun was glowing bright red against the horizon reflecting off each glorious, shiny skyscraper. The city looked like a perfectly organized lego set and I have never seen such a beautifully organized group of concrete.

The airport is the source of some of the greatest joys and excitement and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
