Neutrality on the Net

Net neutrality has been a contentious and controversial issue in recent years, but what is it, and why is it so contentious? Net Neutrality essentially prevents internet service providers from giving preferential treatment to certain media sources. It is the idea of a free and open internet that is equally available to any person accessing it from any provider.

Net Neutrality benefits consumers primarily, as they are allowed unfettered access to any content on the world wide web, without media companies or ISPs influencing the media consumed. It also allows new media sources a chance to find a hold in the marketplace, rather than being drowned out by tech giants.

Ultimately, Net Neutrality is beneficial because it provides uncensored, unhindered access to any information on the internet. It prevents media companies from having a larger influence over what media we can consume and what thoughts and ideas we have access to.
