The Monster Within

As Kate turned the key to bring the shutters down, she heard it again. A banging, from inside the shop. A sound she had heard moments before, but initially thought nothing of.

Only now, it was louder, quicker. She pulled the key out of its socket, ducked under the already half closed shutter and reopened the shop door.

As she entered back into the darkened room, the banging grew louder still, almost deafening. Kate followed the sound, it was coming from the far corner of the shop, behind the rack of day old newspapers.

“Probably just a cat, got itself stuck in an awkward space” she thought as she closed in on the sound.

As she neared the source of the racket, it stopped suddenly. She paused, feeling her heart rate rapidly increasing.

She glanced behind the rack, her eyes widened as she laid eyes on the large golden figure, crouching into a space much too small for the largeness of its body.

As it rose above her, she started to scream. However it was too late, she felt it grab her shoulders and bring her crashing down, she could feel the crunching of the bones in her arms, snapping under the weight upon her.

Then, her heart beat quickened even more, before stopping suddenly.

The golden figure dropped her to the ground as quickly as it had attacked her, then slowly crouched back down, contorting itself in a way not physically possible.

It waited, patiently, for dawn to roll around, when it could take its next victim.
